About This Place

Waverly Inn, nestled in the heart of New York City’s West Village, offers an inviting embrace of classic American cuisine infused with undeniable charm and sophistication. This iconic restaurant masterfully balances an elegant yet relaxed dining atmosphere, making it a prime destination for those seeking a memorable culinary experience wrapped in vintage New York ambiance.

Step inside Waverly Inn, and you’ll immediately sense the restaurant’s distinctive character — a cozy, old-world charm that perfectly complements the carefully crafted menu. Here, the cuisine is a celebration of American comfort food elevated by luxurious ingredients and refined techniques. From the buttery richness of their signature Waverly Chicken Pot Pie filled with roasted vegetables and hints of white wine and herbs, to the decadently luscious Eggs Benedict, each dish is designed to comfort and impress simultaneously.

The menu shines with diverse highlights: the Duck Confit offers tender, perfectly rendered meat paired with seasonal mushrooms spaetzle and a tangy pickled accent, while the Cheeseburger with Bacon delivers a spectacular, juicy indulgence that many patrons have hailed as a standout. For a lighter, fresh option, the Burrata Salad melds creamy cheese with piquant Zhoug, pickled cauliflower, and toasted pine nuts—a vivid, refreshing burst of flavor.

Seafood aficionados will delight in the Oysters on the Half Shell and the fresh Scottish Salmon served alongside English peas and marinated squash. The menu’s range also boasts thoughtful small plates such as Baby Kale Salad with marinated summer squash and pecorino, appealing to both health-conscious diners and those craving more indulgent bites like the chilled Jumbo Gulf Shrimp cocktail.

Diners have praised the restaurant’s ability to maintain a perfect balance between sophistication and comfort. One enthusiastic guest lauded the burger as “absolutely spectacular” and the accompanying onion rings as “crispy, flavorful, and just the right accompaniment.” The atmosphere, described as “elegant yet relaxed,” creates a space where guests can savor their meals without pretense, fostering an inviting sense of nostalgia and warmth.

Service at Waverly Inn also ranks highly, with several guests highlighting attentive and personable waitstaff who elevate the meal beyond just the food. In particular, remarks about friendly and dedicated servers like James reflect how much the staff’s care contributes to an overall exceptional dining visit.

While some guests have noted the intimacy of the dining room means tables are placed rather close together — a typical urban charm of the West Village — it never detracts from the sensory pleasures offered at each visit. From the sumptuous aromas of black truffle-infused butternut squash risotto to the satisfying crisp of Brussels sprouts and potatoes, the experience at Waverly Inn is both tactile and deeply satisfying.

For those celebrating special occasions, the restaurant provides an atmospheric venue steeped in history and elegance, although a few reviewers have expressed desires for more personalized acknowledgments during milestone celebrations. Even so, the overall reception consistently underscores Waverly Inn’s place as a treasured gem for American fare enthusiasts.

Whether you’re indulging in the rich layers of a crab cake, savoring the bright, zesty notes of a Paloma cocktail, or enjoying perfectly prepared classic staples like omelettes and hash, Waverly Inn invites you to experience a truly authentic slice of New York’s culinary tradition with every bite. It is a dining destination that leaves a lasting impression — a true testament to how comforting, well-executed American cuisine can be.

Make a reservation and prepare to be swept away by the warm ambiance, attentive service, and thoughtfully executed dishes that have earned Waverly Inn its celebrated reputation within the city’s vibrant restaurant scene.

We had a fantastic experience at The Waverly Inn in West Village. The atmosphere is completely in character — elegant yet relaxed — creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable meal. We ordered the eggs Benedict, the chicken sandwich and the burger which was absolutely spectacular—clearly a standout. The onion rings we had as a side were also must-order: crispy, flavorful, and just the right accompaniment. The whole visit exceeded expectations. I’ll definitely be back whenever I get the chance.

BEST FILET MIGNON I’ve ever had!!! Woww I was honestly impressed. Usually I just get disappointed with the food when I go to very fancy restaurants! But this one amazed me Great atmosphere/ vibe, love all the details and service. Just sad that the tables have to be so close to each other.

My family of three had dinner here last night. We were very happy with our food and we tried a lot. Dining room has a nice feel. Service was incredible! James was our waiter and I think we’d all agree we’d go back just to have him again. You know when a waiter or waitress just makes the whole experience so nice you almost could care less about the food? This was our experience with James. We will definitely dine here again.

the food this time wasn’t amazing. the prime rib was super raw even though we asked for medium rare and the other food all wasn’t incredible. enjoyed the truffle mac and the onion rings.

Made a reservation here for a Saturday evening dinner (resy opens 2 weeks in advanced), for my partners birthday. I did note this in my booking but it was not acknowledged by staff at all. The dining room has a great, old feel to it, however tables are very close together. We were lucky to dine at 6pm, before the room was full. We had the trout salad as appetiser which was better than expected and easy to share between two. For our mains, we had the chicken pot pie (very hearty) and roast chicken. Both were cooked perfectly. For the price, I would only recommend for special occasions.

The food was delicious! This restaurant is very New York, very classy and on the traditional side. We went on a Thursday night and there were lots of parents/ grown children dinners as well as a few birthdays. Highly recommend the branzino and risotto!

Such a good meal. Just tasty all around. Love the baby kale salad so much. Salmon is good but nothing you haven't had from a salmon entree before. Chicken is great, the real star is the castelfranco... holy wow. I don't know what they did with that dressing but it's absolutely insane. It honestly blew my mind I can't explain it. Mixed with the sauce of the chicken. Amazing. Need to come back from dessert but I was so full And those biscuits!!!! So freaking good ugh i need them by the dozen. Also the ambiance inside is a vibe. I wouldn't sit outside in the front, it's noisy and buggy. But the back outside garden is nice.
